Describing the militant attack on a Spanish restaurant in the capital as a very “hatred act”, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today said those who carried out the terrorist attack during the month of Ramadan don’t believe in any religion. BSS
“It’s very hatred act … those who made the terrorist attack during the month of Ramadan don’t believe in any religion, and this terrorism is their only religion,” she said.
The Premier said the way they are killing the people is rare. “How a human being can attack another human being to fulfill one’s revenge and it is in the month of Ramadan…in fact they don’t believe in any religion,” she said.
The Prime Minister said this while inaugurating the four-lane Dhaka-Chittagong and Dhaka-Mymemnsingh Highways through a function at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre here this morning. The Premier said it’s practice for a Muslim that he or she will offer prayers in the month of Ramadan.
“Azan (prayer call) has been made and he or she would offer prayer. But the terrorists who made the attack on the Spanish restaurant went there to kill the people by ignoring Azan,” she said.
Sheikh Hasina wondered that what type of Muslims they are and how those who went for killing people would protect the religion by avoiding prayers? “They had to die and couldn’t survive,” she said.
“What did their family get through it and I can’t understand that why the people step into the terrorist work?” she questioned.
Sheikh Hasina extended her heartiest congratulations to all including para commando for conducting a successful operation to rescue the hostages from a Spanish restaurant in Gulshan in the capital.
“I congratulate our first para commando battalion for conducting a successful operation in Holey Artisan Bakery to free the hostages from the armed militants inside the restaurant,” she said.
Sheikh Hasina also congratulated army, navy, air force, RAB and BGB personnel for carrying out the successful operation. “Being united and through whole night efforts, we have been able to kill the terrorists in a shortest possible time,” she said.
Sheikh Hasina said after the attack on the Spanish restaurant, the law enforcers didn’t sit idle and they conducted operation immediately. As a result, the terrorists could not escape, she said.
The Prime Minister said being informed, the police rushed to the scene immediately and conducted an operation in the Spanish restaurant to free the hostages.
“But two police officers were killed and 30 other policemen injured as the militants opened fire and hurled grenades at them,” she said.
Sheikh Hasina said later the army para battalion commandoes were called from Sylhet alongside the commandoes of Dhaka and Savar Cantonments. Police, RAB and BGB also took preparation to carry out the operation.
“We took a plan by sitting at Ganobhaban that how we would save the hostages from the terrorists and how we would protect their lives,” she said.
She said it’s a matter of happiness that 10 hours didn’t need to complete the operation. “We have been able to rescue 13 people and could not save some persons, while some were admitted to the CMH,” she said.
The Premier said six terrorists were killed on the spot and another was arrested.
Reiterating her government’s firm stance against terrorism and militancy, she said Bangladesh has taken the decision to root out the twin demons. “This kind of incident is the first in Bangladesh,” she said.
Taking a swipe at private TV channels for broadcasting live the rescue operation, Sheikh Hasina said through this the terrorists inside the restaurant were able to know all things of preparation.
“That’s why we told the TV channels to stop live broadcasting and we also stopped cable and internet service in the Gulshan area,” she said.
The Premier said some TV channels didn’t pay heed to it and they continued to broadcast live the operation and such incidents happened during the BDR carnage, she said. “Those TV channels which violated the decisions are under our watch,” she said.
